By the name of our project it might ring some bells that is somehow related to the environment. Well, it definitely is. It relates to our environment and how are we affecting it. The name of our circle made us decide to work on this. Our group is named “Greta Thunberg”. Let me give you a little insight on her.

Who is Greta Thunberg?

Greta Thunberg is a Swedish environmental activist who has gained international recognition for promoting the view that humanity is facing an existential crisis arising from climate change. Thunberg is known for her youth and her straightforward speaking manner, both in public and to political leaders and assemblies, in which she criticizes world leaders for their failure to take sufficient action to address the climate crisis.

But what is so interesting about her?

In May 2018, aged 15, Greta won a climate change essay competition in a local newspaper. Three months later, in August, she started protesting in front of the Swedish parliament building. She held a sign that read “School Strike for Climate” and began regularly missing lessons to go on strike on Fridays, urging students around the world to join her.

Her protests went viral on social media and as support for her cause grew, other strikes started around the world, spreading with the hashtag #FridaysForFuture. By December 2018, more than 20,000 students around the world had joined her in countries including Australia, the UK, Belgium, the US and Japan. She joined strikes around Europe, choosing to travel by train to limit her impact on the environment.

The poster says “school strike for the climate.”

So, if a 15-year-old can do it, what is stopping us?

We humans have become so ignorant and lazy that if something doesn’t immediately affect us, we do not take action on it and rely on other people to do that. Change starts from within, obviously not all of us have the capacity to change the world. What we can do is change ourselves. Be the change we want to see in the world. Start small but do at least something to make a positive impact on others.

Our Environment

Let’s see how much damage have we done and are still doing to ruin our environment and eventually the Earth:

Ocean Pollution:

Oceans, which cover 70% of the surface of the Earth and form the largest habitat on the planet, face increasing stress as a result of human activities. Since the beginning of the industrial era ocean acidification is increasing and it will continue to acidify during the 21st century.

Ocean acidification is expected to affect ocean ecosystems, such as coral reefs, and the living organisms that inhabit those ecosystems. It will change ocean life and its food chain.

Air Pollution and climate change:

Overloading of the atmosphere with carbon. Atmospheric CO2 absorbs and re-emits infrared-wavelength radiation, leading to warmer air, soils, and ocean surface waters — which is good: The planet would be frozen solid without this.

Unfortunately, there’s now too much carbon in the air. Burning of fossil fuels, deforestation for agriculture, and industrial activities have pushed up atmospheric CO2 concentrations from 280 parts per million (ppm) 200 years ago, to about 400 ppm today. That’s an unprecedented rise, in both size and speed. The result: climate disruption.

Winter is coming, and so is the smog in Lahore

Land Pollution:

Land Pollution refers to the deterioration of the earth’s land surfaces. Furthermore, it occurs mainly due to the indirect and direct effects of human activities. Similarly, when we misuse the land resources, land pollution happens.

It is a global issue that needs to be fixed immediately. The unnecessary materials contaminate the quality of our land. For instance, even the garbage on the streets is a kind of land pollution only.

This was a very brief introduction of how are we making our environment suffer. After reading this, take a moment and think about this: Are you a contributor of all of this too?

How does Envirophile is trying to make a difference?

We, the members of Envirophile are working to create awareness among people about the problems that are occurring in our surroundings and are providing easy solutions to it.

Our whole project is going to take place online through social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Right now, it is the most effective way to do so as almost everyone is using social media due to being locked down in their homes. We have tried to spread the word about our startup to almost everyone in our circle and encouraged them to further share it with other people too.

Social sites are a playground for engaging with one another. This lends it to be a great place for you to engage with people at every stage of their journey with you. Social media is a great platform for influencers to maintain a good relationship with people, while also having the opportunity to be found by new leads. In fact, a lot of people learn about new influencers or awareness campaigns because it was mentioned by a friend on social media.

That is why we have opted the option of social media as it is within everyone’s reach, easy to use and our word can easily be shared among multiple people.

Our content:

It’ll be hard to make a great impression on the page visitors because they will simply ignore this as there are already pages/channels working on environmental awareness. Considering this fact, we have to do something out of the box. This is the summary of how we will be designing and posting our content:

· Attractive posters: It is human nature to respond and give attention to attractive colorful posts no matter how old you are.

· Concise but effective descriptions: People usually get bored on reading multiple paragraphs of captions. So, we’ll keep ours interesting, on point and short.

· Comparison via pictures: As colorful posters attract people, so will the comparison of the environmental destruction. Like the most famous #10Year Challenge, we’ll compare and show new and old pictures of how badly our environment has been affected.

· Constant Advertisement: We’ve set up a separate advertisement team for this purpose. They will keep posting ads of all our posts so we get maximum engagement.

· No delays in posting: I’ve planned up the days to post our content our social media and hopefully we’ll keep following that so our engagement with people doesn’t pause.

Timeline for the last 15 days:

Division of Tasks:

Conclusion:

This is how Team Envirophile is going to work. We strive to make a positive impact and create maximum awareness of the Environmental Problems arising every single day through our compelling and impressive content across all the Social Media platforms. We’ll be showing effective teamwork and how we can make a great change together!
